Alberobello, Italy

Alberobello, Italy, Puglia

Alberobello is a small town in Puglia and is famous for its unique and fascinating trullo buildings. The whitewashed stone huts have conical roofs which resemble a magician’s hat. The legend is that inhabitants designed them in this way to avoid taxes. The roof of a trullo is made by assembling stones on top of each other making it easier to remove the stones when the tax collector arrived. Without a roof, there is no home and therefore, no taxes. They would put the stones back together again to have their roof as soon as the tax collector left town. The ancient tradition will make you feel like you are living in a fairytale. Additionally, the trulli of Alberobello have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
