Lucca, Italy

Italy, Lucca

Lucca is a city in Italy’s Tuscany region. It is known for its fantastic and well-preserved medieval city walls which encircle the historic old town and its cobblestone streets. Large pathways along the tops of the walls are popular, of course, for strolling, running and cycling.

Since 1857, Lucca has been a destination for poets, philosophers, and artists from Italy and abroad. Lucca is also the home of Giacomo Puccini, the great opera composer. Today, his home is a museum.

The small town of Lucca is quiet and easy to get around. It is a must-see stop on any Tuscan itinerary.

The Small List

Best Hotel

Grand Universe Lucca – The Grand Universe Lucca is the only luxury hotel in the historic center of the city. The hotel overlooks two of the most beautiful piazzas. The boutique hotel is steps away from masterpieces of Medieval and Renaissance architecture. In addition, it is near many other ancient gems in this historic town.

Best Restaurant

Giglio Ristorante – Restaurant Giglio is located in a beautiful 18th century palazzo in the center of Lucca. The One Michelin Star restaurant serves modern cuisine with an Italian feel and is definitely worth a stop.

Best Caffe

Caffe Santa Zita – Santa Zita is a biscotteria in the city center. The biscuits were inspired by the Lucce tradition with biadina, a typical liquor of the city. The bar is elegant and offers sweet and savory pastries. Drinks are suitable for every moment of the day and are, above all, designed by the best local barmen.
