Art, aperitivo, and the Dolomites
A wonderfully unexpected stop on Alpe di Siusi where a rustic mountain barn, photography exhibition, full bar, and spectacular Dolomite scenery come together at 2,045 meters.
High on Alpe di Siusi, Baita Edlweiss is one of those wonderfully unexpected places that makes a summer day in the Dolomites even more memorable. Open only during the summer season, it is one of those experiences that belongs entirely to the warmer months.
Set at 2,045 meters within the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park, the rustic mountain baita is surrounded by an extraordinary 360-degree panorama of the Dolomites. Hikers and mountain bikers arrive throughout the day, but what makes Edlweiss particularly interesting is that this isn’t simply another traditional mountain hut.
Inside the old barn, you’ll discover a photography exhibition dedicated to the surrounding landscape, turning a casual stop into an unexpected encounter with art in the middle of the mountains. Outside, the terrace and garden invite you to settle in with a drink and simply take in the scenery.
There is a full bar along with snacks, homemade cakes and strudel, and traditional South Tyrolean dishes, but for us, Edlweiss is less about planning a formal mountain lunch and more about the experience of discovering it along the way: a beautiful old barn, compelling photography, a proper drink, and the Dolomites surrounding you in every direction.

Insider Insight
It’s easy to arrive at Edlweiss, see the terrace, and immediately settle outside with a beer, glass of wine, or aperitivo. Do that, but don’t leave without stepping inside the barn.
The photography exhibition is what makes this place special. After spending hours walking through the Dolomites, seeing the landscape interpreted through someone else’s lens gives you an entirely different appreciation for where you’ve just been.
Then head back outside, order another drink, and don’t be in too much of a hurry to continue. Baita Edlweiss is exactly the kind of discovery that reminds us why some of the best moments in the Dolomites aren’t necessarily the ones we planned.
Edlweiss is a summer-only experience, so check seasonal opening dates before planning your visit. Closed Saturdays.
Baita Edlweiss is quintessential Best Day Every Day: not grand, not overly polished, and not somewhere everyone necessarily knows to seek out. It’s a beautiful little discovery high on Alpe di Siusi where mountains, photography, drinks, and the pleasure of lingering come together. Stop during a summer hike, explore the barn, order something from the bar, and enjoy the fact that you’ve found somewhere worth staying longer than expected.
We came across the mountains looking for a drink and discovered a photography gallery in a barn. These are the places we love sharing.
