Built into a rocky grotto on Monte Tauro, this intimate 17th-century chapel rewards its pilgrims with sweeping views of Taormina and the coast.

Literally meaning “Mary of the rock”, is a tiny sanctuary that was built around 1640 inside a grotto on Monte Tauro. It is well worth the hike for the heavenly views from the church’s terrace.

Begin your hike from Via Circonvallazione in the early morning to avoid heat and crowds. At the top, the tiny bell inside the sanctuary still works—visitors often ring it for reflection or good fortune. Bring a small token to leave behind; locals believe wishes made here carry special weight.
