India’s most extravagant hidden collection
Located inside Fateh Prakash Palace, the Crystal Gallery displays furniture so lavish it was forgotten—literally—for over a century.
The Crystal Gallery in Udaipur’s City Palace showcases one of the world’s largest private collections of crystal, commissioned in 1877 by Maharana Sajjan Singh from F&C Osler & Co in England. Tragically, the maharana passed before it arrived, leaving the pieces forgotten in boxes for 110 years. Now on display, the collection includes crystal chairs, sofas, tables, chandeliers, and even a bed, each reflecting unmatched royal opulence. Located in Fateh Prakash Palace, this sparkling treasure trove is a must-see for its unique history and extravagant beauty.

Insider Insight
Commissioned from F&C Osler in 1877, the collection remained boxed until rediscovery in the 1990s. Look for the crystal four-poster bed—one of only a handful in existence. Early morning visits offer the best light to see the refractions dance across the chandeliers.
A royal fantasy of chandeliers, chairs—and one glittering bed.
